A dear friend of mine sent this to me. It was sent to a New York radiostation by some other person, and although I found it UTTERLY APPAULING!!! I can not entirely disagree with the point that this person made, and here it is:

THEY ARE STILL OUR SLAVES
We can continue to reap profits from the Blacks without the effort of
physical slavery. Look at the current methods of containment that they
use on themselves: IGNORANCE, GREED, and SELFISHNESS.

Their IGNORANCE is the primary weapon of containment. A great man
said, "The best way to hide something from Black people is to put it
in a book." We now live in the Information Age. They have gained the
opportunity to read any book on any subject through the efforts of
their fight for freedom, yet they refuse to read. There are numerous
books readily available at Borders, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon.com,
not to mention their own Black Bookstores that provide solid
blueprints to reach economic equality (which should have been their
fight all along), but few read consistently, if at all.

GREED is another powerful weapon of containment. Blacks, since the
abolition of slavery, have had large amounts of money at their
disposal. Last year they spent 10 billion dollars during Christmas,
out of their 450 billion dollars in total yearly income (2.22%). Any
of us can use them as our target market, for any business venture we
care to dream up, no matter how outlandish, they will buy into it.

Being primarily a consumer people, they function totally by greed.
They continually want more, with little thought for saving or
investing. They would rather buy some new sneaker than invest in
starting a business. Some even neglect their children to have the
latest Tommy or FUBU, and they still think that having a Mercedes, and
a big house gives them "Statu s" or that theyhave achieved their
Dream.

They are fools! The vast majority of their people are still in poverty
because their greed holds them back from collectively making better
communities. With the help of BET, and the rest of their black media
that often broadcasts destructive images into their own homes, we will
continue to see huge profits like those of Tommy and Nike. (Tommy
Hilfiger has even jeered them, saying he doesn't want their money, and
look at how the fools spend more with him than ever before!). They'll
continue to show off to each other while we build solid communities
with the profits from our businesses that we market to them.

SELFISHNESS, ingrained in their minds through slavery, is one of the
major ways we can continue to contain them. One of their own, Dubois
said that there was an innate division in their culture. A "Talented
Tenth" he called it. He was correct in his deduction that there are
segments of their culture that has achieved some "form" of success.
However, that segment missed the fullness of his work. They didn't
read that the "Talented Tenth" was then responsible to aid The
Non-Talented Ninety Percent in achieving a better life.

Instead, that segment has created another class, a Buppie class that
looks down on their people or aids them in a condescending manner.
They will never achieve what we have. Their selfishness does not allow
them to be able to work together on any project or endeavor of
substance. When they do get together, their selfishness lets their
egos get in the way of their goal.

Their so-called help organizations seem to only want to promote their
name without making! any real change in their community. They are
content to sit in conferences and conventions in our hotels, and talk
about what they will do, while they award plaques to the best
speakers, not the best doers. Is there no end to their selfishness?
They steadfastly refuse to see that TOGETHER EACH ACHIEVES MORE
(TEAM).

They do not understand that they are no better than each other of what
they own as a matter of fact, most of those Buddies are but one or two
pay checks away from poverty. All of which is under the control of our
pens in our offices and our rooms. Yes, we will continue to contain
them as long as they refuse to read, continue to buy anything they
want, and keep thinking they are "helping" their communities by paying
dues to organizations which do little other than hold lavish
conventions in our hotels.

By the way, don't worry about any of them reading this letter,
remember, 'THEY DON'T READ!!!!'

(Prove them wrong. Please pass this on! After Reading it..)

I am interested in what you have to say about this, but first here's a little of my own insight. I feel that we as "Black" people are supporting this type of stereotypical thinking. I say that because we are a very intellegent people and yet some of us continue to use slavery as an excuse to be held back. There is no reason why we are in poverty. Spare me the "The White Man" speach. Do we have a struggle ahead???? Yes, and we always will. Is it harder for us???? Only as hard as we make it. Are we afforded the same opportunities as everyone else???? I beleive so because we are now free to read and gain the same knowledge that others have and quite possibly could improve upon it, where at one period in time we were not able to read, or write lest we be beaten and hung or set on fire or even worse, ALLTHREE!! . We must apply our knowedge and build on it. The obsticles that we face are great but others have made it more simple for us (not to say that it is easy because it is not, nor ever will it be.) but anything worth haveing is worth working for and towards. The #1 obsticle we must face is ourselves. I will stop there and let others respond. I have much to say on this, but I would really like to hear what you have to say, so please join in the discussion. Yah Bless.

I must make a correction...... The letter is from my dear friend However it was sent by someone else to a New York radiostation. I see that no one cares to respond to this ignorance. However I do feel it neccessary to let you know that by ignoring it doesn't make it got away. This mentality is still out there among people, and I am very interested in hearing your feelings, opinions and views on this subject matter.

I see both your points Sister Bayta and Sister Delight, However... In my oppinion, and by the way I am a black female hopefully you can tell, Although it is racist and offensive, I do beleive the this person has a point. I see so many "Black people" as he would call us, drunk prostituting, living in poverty, always in a bad situation, youth that refuse to go to schools parents who are frustrated and feel that there is just no hope at all for their children once the children get arrested or kicked out of school, and oft' times when asked the answer has always been the same " The white people not gon let us Black people get ahead" or " The cops just watch us blacks, they just know if they see us riding in something nice that we are drug dealers" or whatever. Then you see the mother struggle so despritely to get out ofpoverty but they are so busy trying to protect their children from the streets that they can barely keep their head above water. They are struggleing because of the lack of education that they received, they got pregnant at an early age, the father left them and they were still ok, but then the met another guy that Loved them soo much that they got pregnant again, then they couldn't go to school cause they had to take care of the children or they had to work cause aklthough the fathers are placed on child support they aren't working so really what good is him being put on it doing, then you have the kids that think it's cool to sell drugs, the money is fast they "Think the don't have to work hard, they "think" they don't have to have an education to sell drugs, but what they aren't realizing is that the nickle and dimeing that they are doing is for someone who has an education the people they are working for are very well educated in all relms of the business, they went to the penatentury got an education got out took college courses, I mean I know all of this too well, I have been on the streets I have friends who have either sold drugs or where big time and the big time ones have degrees, I'm not kidding and they will tell you that the person theat they work for has a higher degree in college than they do, and I'm NOT SUGGESTING THAT PEOPLE WHO SELL DRUGS SHOULD DO IT AT A HIGHER LEVEL, That is NOT what I'm saying at all but what I am saying is that they shold take advantage of the education system and apply themselves in a more produstive and not destructive way. It's madness. The sad reality of it all is that alot, NOT ALL, but alot of Black people are in situations of poverty because of the lack of education which I don't feel is excusable. The education system is just as much out there for us as is anybody else and we don't take full advantage of it. You are right Sister Batya,.. absolutely Correct!!! However, although there is ignorance and poverty in every race the same things that I have stated is true for them as well, But this letter was written about "black people" and "Black people" have a desturbling History of being beaten and tortured during slavery and people have died to ensure our rights to be able to attend school and learn and vote ect... and the state of black people today just appauling as this letter. I wonder what those people who endured that pain and suffering would say or do if they saw the way some black people carry on today. I talked to one of my professors a couple of years back because he said that "All Any Of You Have To Do Is go to the library and look up any subject tha you want to learn and read, find out where the test are given for that field and pass it" I asked him why then is it neccessary for people to go to college. His reply was " It looks good on an aplication, but if you where to do as I said and pass the test with scores higher than a college graduate you would be hired over the college graduate". I thought it funny and decided to do some research on his theory and found that he was absolutely correct. I enquired at Three major Computer Companies, Four Banks, and a couple of Law firms and All confirmed that The deploma helps get your foot in the door but the test scores are what determine weather you are hired or not and what level that you would be hired on. We are smart people however we don't all apply ourselves, many use the excuse that they don't have money for college, I researched that as well and there are many many different programs that pay for college that they do not have to pay back. For instance I don't have money for college however Because I am a single mother with three underaged children I was approved for the Pell Grant. I mean the money is out there but no one is going to walk up to us and say hey here's some money for school, which is another point that this person made. We don't stick together and help one another. Oh dang.... I'm gonna let someone else comment. I'm sorry, I just have soo much to say on this matter.

As to the comments by sisters Abba's Delight and Batya Emunah, I second those emotions!
Ignorance, greed and selfishness are colorblind.

CandyAngel35, we're feelin' you. That's some testimony.
I want to, we all want to encourage you. You're on the right path.

Peace,
Christopher

Todah Brother Chistopher, andI do Have a tstamony indeed, However I feel very strongly on this subject. We as a people need to stop playing "the Blame Game" Slavery was not ment to be an excuse for our failures it was a HUGE!! and I do mean HUGE!! stubbling block. It was always ment to Stop us but history has shown that it hasn't. It just slowed us down. We got so satisfied though with the Liberties that our ancestor fought soo hard to obtain for us that we have lost track of the fact that we must do the same for our children. The liberties and rights are there but we many of us fail to exercise them by furthering our education, and turning the tables (so to speak) We have soo much yet we don't (in my opinion) have enough. We are not respected totally, we are constantly mocked for our behaviors and we continue to practice these behaviors when, and we really don't have too and know that we shouldn't. Some of us KILL ME with " It's All a Plot by the white man to hold us down" My responce to that statement is and has always been: "WHAT!!!, You gotta be kidding me!!" Then I get the responce back : "Well look at our neighborhoods, There is a church and a Liquor store on every corner and not far from there is a Police station." again I say "WHAT!!!!" To me it boils down to the choice that you make. Are you going to pay the preacher (who Hopefully has your souls best interest at heart" or the Liquor store. No One holds a gun to anyone head and lines us up and says hear you better go and buy some liquor and get sloppy drunk and run over someone with your car or beat your wife or I'm gonna shoot you." We need to stopp using excuses and blaming others for our own failures. It's assanine, None of these single mothers tell a man "Hey, sleep with me until I get pregnant then leave me when you find out that I am to raise our child alone and without a fathers guidance" I mean it's rediculous. No mother says " Hey son when you get old enough, maybe 9 or 10 years of age, I want you to quit school and sell drugs so you go to the penetentury, and have to struggle fo the rest of your life, Better yet!! so can be dead by the time you reach aduklthood" Get outta here with those excuses. The only road block anyone of us have is ourselves. I forget who said this but I often remember a quote my mother taught me when I was very young it goes: " I THINK THEREFORE I AM" in otherwords if you "THINK" you can't get an education then GUESS WHAT!!! More than likely you can't because you have already made up your mind that it's impossible. If you are in school and trying the very bestthat you can but "THINK" "MAN THIS STUFF IS TOO HARD, I"M NEVER GONNA PASS!!" Then GUESS WHAT!!!! More than likely you won't because you have made up in your mind that the work is too hard for you and that you will never pass. Hey,... I'm guilty of it myself sometimes, however if I do fall short and don't pass, GUESS WHAT!!! I go right back the next time and take that course again and I will take it until I pass it. The key is: NEVER GIVE UP!!! NEVER SETTLE FOR LESS WHEN YOU DESERVE SOO MUCH MORE. and this is what alot of us have done. We build baracdes for ourself and we need to WAKE UP AND REALIZE IT!!WHEWW... I'm gonna stop hear nad wait for someone elses reponce. Good topic. Still so much more I want tosay though but I'll wait. LOL

Another thing I forgot to mention is that there are liquor stores on every corner because we allow them to be there, buy purchasing what they are selling. If everyone would stop purchasing Liquor everday all day then the liquor stores would be forced to either relocate or stop selling liquor, or they can be potition by the people of said neighborhood and be forced to move by government affiliates. Hey!! I've seen it done and it tripped me out!! LOL.

First off yes this is not very nice. But i think all of us should be carefull about getting angry about an email that has been passed around the web for about 6 years. I do research in internet hoaxes, and this smells like one.
1. the radio station is not named, so you cant verify it # 1 alert that this is a hoax. whenever i receive an email and it says this was sent to me by a good friend who heard it on such and such . warning bells go off and I look into it.

2 whenever one of these emails say pass this around thats another warning bell.

3. this is done to specificaly stir up anger, hatred, you name it.

mark twain once said." A lie can make it halfway around the world before the truth can even get its boots on".

WE should first test all things before we pass them on. In other versions of this email it states that Dee lee is he one who read this on the radio. This woman has said on her site that she didnot write this or read it. Think of the damage we can do to others by spreading false stories.

Greetings, Well Said Brother Abiyah. This forum is not ment to cause division It is souly to hear others fellings on this matter. The question is not weather the letter was written or not, it is to bring together EVERYONE by allowing them to voice their feelings on the subject. We are all to be as Yah intructed us to be and To Follow His Direction one of which is to Love one another. As Brother Abiyah stated, hoax or not, This is the view of many, Not only whites. My question is What must we do to deture this frame of mind? and to find out why and how this frame of mind has come to be, also I would like to hear views on if any of you feel that this frame of mind has and still is being fueled and why? Maybe if we cant talk about it we can better understand and do something to change it. Is there anything that we can do? All comments are welcome as Long as it is constructive and not destructive. I started this forum and I would like it very much if it would remain civil and we can discuss this topic in Brother and sisterhood, and thus far it has and I truely appreciate it. Thank you. May Yah Bless and Keep you all.

Todah Brother Abiyah. I Agree fully, Also, along with that, We must also speak to our elders and learn from them as well, instead of just pushing them aside as if they no longer matter. There is wisdom in age, and in case some haven't noticed, or elders ar dieing away quickly. So talk to them let them pass on there wisdom, incourage your children to talk to them about things they have seen done and been through. If your children are unable to speak tothem then make sure that you pass down the elders knowlege ( however relavent may feel that it may or may not be) I can assure you that there is relevence in EVERYTHING that they say whether you think so or not so pass it down. Our Elders are our imediate link to history, and when they are gone then the history will leave with them if it is not passed on to the future generations. Everything that we do in life is a learning expierience and should be told and explained why it was a good idea to do these things or why it wasn't a good idea. Don't leave things out someone can and will learn from them, no matter how horrific, tragic, heartbreaking, tedious ect.. Read about things such as laws of old, compared to modern law, learn new languages. Open your imagination by opening a book. SO what if you don't have a degree you can know just as much as one who does and you will feel better about yourself, just watch your self esteem build as you read. I promise, You won't be disappointed. LOL, Looks like you and I Brother Abiyah are the only ones who care to comment on this subject. It's really sad. By The way Shabbat Shalom to youand yours. Goodnight Friend.

Dearest Candie

I totally agree its a disgrace to say that blacks don't read.

I do think that hardly anybody these days reads though - whatever colour they be. It is a shame since reading seems to be our only last chance at obtaining truth these days. A lot of leaders and churches don't have all the answers. Which is why the BIBLE, the internet and books are so fantastic.

Thank IEUE He sent us His Scriptures. He foreknew that when if all else failed (our leaders, churches and government) that His Word would enable us to go mind to mind with Him, and that the books and internet would enable us to fellowship across the Earth.

Until the remnant is gathered from their dispersion to the place of safety (under the influence of the two authentic end-time prophets) we have mainly scripture, books and the internet to learn from and fellowship through.

Although reading is an incomplete form of learning on its own, its power is still adequate to save our beings and revive our hearts. There is also the advantage of being able to think before responding to brothers and sisters in our emails, comments and discussions - which can prevent the heartache of erroneous rash responses - usually.

John Taylor-Gatto in his An Underground History of American Education describes reading this way -

"Reading is the skeleton key for all who lack a personal tutor of quality"

"in the absence of a perfect universal [human] mentor, books and other texts are the best and cheapest stand-ins, always available to those who look"

"Close reading of tough-minded writing is still the best, cheapest, and quickest method known for learning to think for yourself.

"Reading teaches nothing more important than the state of mind in which you find yourself absolutely alone with the thoughts of another mind, a matchless form of intimate rapport available only to those with the ability to block out distraction and concentrate."

"Once you trust yourself to go mind to mind with great intellects, artists, scientists, warriors and philosophers, you are finally free."

and...IEUE is the Master intellect of them all. What a privilege we have reading His word - even if we are still trying to perceive His autograph correctly.

Best of health, Jane

Todah Sister Jane, And first of all let me say that I totally agree with you however.. I didn't say that I thought that "saying that Blacks don't read is a disgrace", the aweful truth of the matter is that many of us don't. It's a sad state of affairs for our people when a child can spell "independent" at 4yrs of age because of a song he/she heard on an album, but can't spell his/her own name. What I am saying is that we must educate ourselves. Instead of being angered by this type of letter take it as incentive to make a change in our behaviors which are appauling and disgraceful(and that doesn't mean all "Black People" because many of us ARE educated) but to those whom it applies, they need to know that they can make a difference if they would get their education, obtain more pride in themselves, and put a stop to their unhealthy mental and social behaviors. We as a people must stop makeing excuses and blaming slavery and "the white man" for the situations that we are in. This Is however a colorblind issue but The letter was directed towards "Black People" however false or fabricated that the letter may be. We all know that there are some who actually feel this way. Which is why my focus is on "black people". My Hopes are to raise the awareness of the importance of education and pride in our "black" communities.
